Wait For The Lord

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:13-14

  • Have you ever been in a situation where you have had to wait for someone or something?

Many years ago I was on my way to a conference in Bolivia. As I began my journey from Harrisburg to Philadelphia, then to Miami and on to Bolivia, I encountered several delays that caused long periods of waiting for the next leg of the journey to begin. When I arrived in Bolivia the next morning, my luggage was no where to be found. It took two more days for my clothes to arrive in Bolivia! During that trip, I was wrestling with a huge decision and the Lord was using the time delays in airports to give me the time I needed to read, pray and think.

  • Has there ever been a time when you were waiting for the Lord and His timing for something to happen  in your life or the people you serve?

At first I didn't realize God's purpose in my flight delays until some time later when God confirmed for me the direction He was leading me. In these verses in Psalm 27, David was so confident that he would see God's goodness that he encourages us to be expectant of what God will do in our lives. In the meantime, we need to be courageous, firm and brave in all that we are doing as we wait for the Lord.

  • What might be the take away for you and for me?

Perhaps we need to look at times when God wants us to wait for Him as times that strengthen our trust in Him. Maybe God wants us to be brave and courageous even though we don't know what lies ahead. We might need to be more expectant of what God wants to do in and through us as we serve Him. Whatever God is asking us to do while we wait, let's remember that He loves us unconditionally and desires His best for us as we wait for His timing.
