Light for the Shadows
/I often describe the journey of grief as passing through a long dark path. The Bible describes grief as a journey through the shadow of death which is a dark place. Thankfully, it is “shadow”, like a cloudy mist rather than like a brick wall. Sometimes the shadow is dappled like the light that comes through the leaves of trees on a sunny day. But other times, it’s much darker than that. Thinking of that journey, it’s good to see this news in scripture:
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:5
It is good to have light what walking down a path in the darkness – like a flashlight that keeps you on track and helps you avoid obstacles that might trip you up and edges of cliffs. Here are a few other scriptures that you can meditate on to receive Light for your path of grief:
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good. Genesis 1:3-4
All the light we have and all the light we need is from our God, the Redeemer and Comforter.
By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Exodus 13:21
He guides us throughout the events of our lives.
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them. Isaiah 42:16
We go through dark and rough places, but He is present, acting on them to bring light to us.
He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Psalm 23:2b-4
His guidance is personal. He is present with each of you, right now.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. Isaiah 9:2
Dawn is coming for you too.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Jesus is what we need – Light for the darkness. His Light Brings Life. And it is good.
