Heavenly Perspective

The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."  He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightening from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions, and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."  Luke 10:17-20

In Luke 10, Jesus sent out 72 individuals to proclaim that the kingdom of God was near and to perform miracles in His name. They were sent to the towns ahead of where Christ would be going.

When they returned, they were excited about all they were able to do in the name of Jesus. Jesus flipped the whole thing upside down when He reminded them that what they really should be joyful about was that their names were written in heaven.

In other words, they wouldn't be able to do all that they had accomplished if He hadn't given them the power to do it!!!

What a reality check for us as we serve others! We need to remember that it is only by His grace and love toward us that we are able to accomplish what He has called us to do. Having that heavenly perspective keeps us focused on Him and all He has done and continues to do in and through us for His glory!
