God's Thoughts And Ways

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.  Isaiah 55:8-9

Have you ever thought about what God’s thoughts and ways are like? In these verses we see that His thoughts and ways are different than ours, even higher. The Hebrew word used here for "thoughts" also refers to "plans" or "purposes." His "ways" could be defined in the Hebrew as "paths" or "journeys". "Higher" denotes "lofty" or "exalted" in verse 9. We will never be able to compare our thoughts and ways to God's because His are so much better than we could ever imagine.

God’s thoughts and ways are in tune with the fact that He and He alone has purposes in mind as well as paths because He sees the big picture in every situation. Why is that? God is our Creator and He created everything (see Genesis 1:1-2:3). He definitely has firsthand knowledge of the big picture. But more than even having firsthand knowledge, He also allows things to happen according to His thoughts and ways, not ours.

What if we had the ability to see into the future, even to know who will win the U. S. presidential election today? Could we really change anything if we did know? Probably not! Because even if we had the ability to see into the future, which we don't, we do not have the power to change things. Only God is all-knowing and all-powerful.

Bring this concept into your own realm of thinking. If God can see the big picture and know all that will happen, doesn’t that encourage us to fully trust Him and also rest completely in His control of everything?
