The Attitude Of Perseverance

Consider it pure joy, my brothers (and sisters), whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  (James 1:2-4)

In James 1:2-4, the author encourages us to maintain an attitude of joy amidst the trials and temptations of life. He also tells us what those times of testing will produce in us, perseverance and patience.

When I think about the concept of perseverance I usually don’t equate it with an attitude of joy! My attitude might be one of “Lord, help me get through this quickly because I don’t have the patience for this!”

But, God brings those trials into our lives to teach us how to persevere so we will be mature, complete and fully equipped for whatever happens. Maintaining that attitude of joy amidst the process of maturing helps us to keep our focus on…
