Drawing Close To The Good Shepherd
/I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. (Jn. 10:14-15)
Many of us do not realize that we are all in need of a shepherd ... for the Good Shepherd of the Bible has all the right perspectives, power and purposes that we need in this broken world! Like lost sheep, we are all born lost. Apart from the Good Shepherd, we don’t know where we were before we were born, we don’t know what our purpose is in this broken world, and we don’t know where we will be for eternity. Only the Good Shepherd of the Bible can direct us into all truth and give us real true answers to such questions. The answer He gives may not tell us everything we want to know but He does tell us everything we need to know.
There are five steps we can take to draw closer to Our Good Shepherd. If you want to have life and have it to the full as the Good Shepherd wants you to have it, decide to do at least one, if not more of these action steps ...
- Be in God’s Word. (Psalm 119:105)
- Talk to Jesus about all your decisions. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
- Have a daily quiet time. (Psalm 46:10)
- Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus throughout the day. (Hebrews 12:1-2)
- Ask Jesus to be in control of your life in every detail. (John 15:5)
Like sheep we need a shepherd because: 1) We’re born lost and we go astray. 2) We get in trouble (get stuck in places like health problems, relational conflicts, and other life challenges). 3) We need protection from an enemy (Satan wants to steal, kill & destroy). 4) We need food & water (we need work and/or God’s provision). 5) We need to know the voice of the Good Shepherd and listen for His voice (we need the Bible).
If it is your desire, what steps can you take today to draw close to the Good Shepherd?
