Finding Rest For Your Soul
/Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
In the midst of ministering to and caring for others, we sometimes reach a point of total exhaustion. We may feel weary and burdened by the needs of others we serve or we may take on more than we can physically, mentally, spiritually or emotionally handle.
Whatever the cause, Jesus invites us to come to Him. He desires to give us that true rest for our souls. He also encourages us to take His yoke and to learn from Him. In the context of these verses, Jesus was denouncing the cities where miracles had been performed because the people were not repenting of their sins. It was coming from the context of the Pharisees and their commands and demands upon the people. Jesus offered His yoke or the opportunity to follow His commands and to gain insight from His gentle and humble ways. The end result would lead to rest and refreshment from the pressures of life.
Let's face it - the pressures of life are not going away anytime soon, so how will you get refreshment for your soul?
- Gain insight from reading God's Word each day
- Take time to meditate on His Word
- Listen as the Holy Spirit speaks to your heart
- Take a walk and enjoy His creation
- Keep the perspective that He is able to carry the burdens for you
