The Only Thing That Counts!

The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. Galatians 5:6b

Did you ever come across a verse that really grabs your attention? Galatians 5:6b is such a verse.  I decided to dig into the context of what Paul was saying to the Galatians. Evidently they were getting hung up on the law and laying aside the promise of God's grace found in the person of Christ. They were confused about what freedom in Christ really meant. The Galatians were trying to be justified by the law which alienated them from Christ. They were walking away from grace!

In Galatians 5:5, Paul says, But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. There is much more in the book of Galatians, but I look at these verses and I think about how my faith is being demonstrated toward those I serve and interact with on a daily basis whether it be family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, counselees, support group members, etc.

The expression of faith must be demonstrated through Christ's love. What actions are you taking in your own life to put forth the compassion of Christ in all that you do? Do you get hung up on the rules of how to do things or do you minister to others through the freedom that you have in Christ?

Although the Galatians were very confused and strayed from the truth, we can learn a huge lesson about the only thing that counts - faith expressing itself through love! May you enjoy the freedom you have in Christ!
