Nothing is Impossible with God

Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”  (Luke 18:27)

Several years ago I had the privilege of traveling to Russia with a team of people from other disability ministries across the United States.  We gave out Bibles, shared our testimonies and presented disability training seminars to teachers and orphanage workers.  We also had opportunities to encourage parents of children with disabilities.  Russian interpreters and van drivers were so valuable to us during our daily travels and ministry opportunities.  Something I consistently heard from the van drivers, spoken in English but with a Russian accent, were the words, “No problem.”  I heard these words when we were faced with various impossible situations like getting lost in Moscow or having our van become stuck in mud and ice on the unpaved road used to travel into one of the villages on the outskirts of the city.

I wish I could say that the words, “No problem,” were my first response when faced with the impossible.   The word “impossible” is not one of my favorite words.  I say that because during those times when I find myself thrust into impossible situations or difficult circumstances through a loss, conflict or need, I see my weaknesses pop up in the form of doubt, fear, impatience, discouragement and other negative attitudes.  I admit, when those impossible situations come my way my immediate response is not usually an optimistic hopeful one like, “No problem.”  Nor is it a response of peace, hope, or excitement over the potential that lies within the impossibilities for growth and change.

However, with the Holy Spirit as my Comforter, Helper and Teacher I am becoming more quickly able to get my focus off of my impossible situations and onto God.   The Holy Spirit will bring God’s Word to my mind, or He’ll point out something God has so wonderfully created or He’ll remind me of how God has worked things out for me in the past, in ways that I never thought to be possible.  The contemporary author, Max Lucado said, “Impossible … is one of God’s favorite words.”

It may be impossible for me to ride a ferris wheel without screaming or to keep from falling asleep while relaxing in my recliner but it’s not impossible for me to have peace, hope and confidence in God in the midst of my struggles, hurt and pain. With God all of my impossibilities become His possibilities and I can tell myself, “No problem.”

As you face your own personal impossible situations, remember that nothing is impossible with God.   With God your impossibilities become His possibilities.
