Love God With All Your Mind

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…Love your neighbor as yourself. Mark 12:30-31

On February 3rd, many in the USA and around the world will have their minds set on a particular football game called the Super Bowl. Parties will take place and for approximately4-5 hours, there will be a fixation of sorts on two teams playing their hearts out to win the trophy and the recognition of being the best team this season!

When we think about loving God with all of your mind, do we give him the full attention He deserves?

The definition of the Greek word, dianoia, for mind in this verse is that it is a faculty of understanding, feeling and desiring. So how do we use this ability we have of understanding, feeling and desiring to love our Creator? Below are some thoughts about our minds and what we are to do with them:

Isaiah 26:3 - we need to keep our minds stayed or steadfast on Him

Romans 12:2 - we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds

1 Peter 1:13 - we are to prepare our minds for action

Romans 12:16 - we are to be of the same mind one toward another

Some very practical ways of loving God with all your mind:

  •  Keep your mind active by reading healthy books along with the Word
  •  Make sure that your thought life is filtered through a Biblical grid
  •  Practice healthy time management
  •  Get proper rest so your mind is clear and focused
