Love God With All Your Heart

As another year begins I am drawn to a passage in Mark 12 where Jesus reminds us what our priorities should be:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength…Love your neighbor as yourself. Mark 12:30-31

Over the next several posts of Care Corner I would like to focus on these verses to gain some insight into what Jesus intended for us to remember as we live our lives for Him.

In Mark 12, Jesus was quoting what Moses said in Deuteronomy 6. Moses was urging Israel to love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength! In verses 7-9, Moses even said to the Israelites that they should:

Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Can you imagine advertising these verses in front of your homes and yards? This tells me that these commands are extremely vital to all of our lives and that they should be the benchmark for our priorities.

Loving God with all your heart simply means welcoming or entertaining God completely as the center of your spiritual and physical being! It is a lifestyle commitment to Him.

Question to think about: How will your heart change toward God in 2013?
