Keeping In Step With The Spirit

On New Year's day I was watching the Rose Bowl Parade and was so impressed with the precision of the marching bands. Each row was aligned and each footstep taken corresponded to that of every other person in the band. I can only imagine that a band must practice many hours to keep in step with one another! In Galatians 5:25 we read:

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

How do we keep in step with the Holy Spirit? The context of this verse talks about living by the Spirit and not gratifying the desires of our sinful nature because they are in complete opposition of one another. What if a band member marched with the opposite foot of all the other band members? What would that look like?  Pretty chaotic!

Instead of chaos, how about keeping in step with the Spirit which literally means to let us exhibit that control of the Spirit in our lives. If we are living by the Spirit, it will be evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace,  patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.)

So, ask yourself this question: Am I keeping in step with the Spirit or am I marching with the opposite foot?
