God Is My Portion

Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.  Psalm 73:23-26

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like you could not go any further? Perhaps you were giving your all to what you were doing and your strength was waning. Maybe you were ready to give up on what you were called to do in ministry or even on life itself.

The Psalmist reminds us that in the midst of whatever we are facing, God is the one who provides the strength and guidance to keep going. He encourages us to lean on Him because He is all we have to rest in for security, direction, protection and the ability to continue on when we feel like giving up.

When my mom would make a favorite pie for dessert, I would watch my dad cut the pieces according to the size desired by each person sitting around the table. The portions were never equal but they were always enough. With God, the portions are equal for all who choose to partake of Him and they are always more than enough. I believe that this is what the Psalmist might have been referring to when he said, God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

God never gives us more than we are able to handle but He certainly gives us enough to see us through whatever He brings into our lives to challenge and grow us to our full potential.
