Our Best Friend
/Ye are my friends . . . I have called you friends. (John 15:4-15)
Everybody wants at least one true friend that will stick by us through thick or thin, a friend that will love us through all kinds of adversity and not desert us in time of need (Proverbs 17:17; 18:24b). Is there such a person for each one of us? Absolutely! And His name is Jesus Christ.
In the above two statements of Christ, He makes it quite clear that He is our true friend and He has proven it in three ways.
- Christ has proven to be our true friend by giving His life to pay our debt, Greater love hath no man than this, than a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)
- Christ has proven to be our true friend by revealing to us the precious truths of God, For all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. (John 15:15) There are no secrets between friends!
- Christ has proven to be our true friend by His promise of His presence and unbroken love, …having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. (John 13:1; Matthew 28:20)
Praise the name of the Lord, for we have a friend beyond compare!
