TAKE LAST PLACE And Be A SERVANT!

After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples, "What were you discussing out on the road?" But they didn't answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest. He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, "Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else." (Lk. 9:33-35)

Ok, ok, I admit it. Sometimes I like to be important. The verses mentioned above do make me kind of happy though, because they remind me that I am not alone in this area. Even the disciples wanted to be important. They wanted to be the greatest. They spent time trying to figure out who would be first or the most important.

Jesus is so great. He sits them down and tells them the way to be important. TAKE LAST PLACE and be a SERVANT! Wow!! That seems a bit backwards doesn't it? Many things that Jesus asks us to do seem backwards because it is not how the world does things. In the world’s way of thinking (and sometimes in mine), I was in the front of the line first. I want to do what I want to do and go where I want to go. People should serve ME! But, when we become like Jesus then we get in the back of the line or ask people what they want to do or where they want to go. We serve THEM in every way possible and put others first before ourselves. We make sure that others are seen before ourselves. I know I need to learn to be more like Jesus, how about you??

Let’s ask Jesus to help us to be HIS SERVANTS to those around us today.
