Asking For Wisdom
/That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you." Solomon answered God, "You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. Give me wisdom and knowledge that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?" 2 Chronicles 1:7-10
If God said to you - "Ask for whatever you want me to give you" - what would you ask for?
Solomon's response to God reflected his desire to serve others. He was already in a position of great power and influence as King of Israel. He could have asked for wealth, riches, honor, and death for his enemies or a long life. Instead, he asked for wisdom and knowledge so he could lead the people of Israel effectively.
If we read on in 2 Chronicles 1, we see that God not only granted Solomon's request for wisdom and knowledge, He also blessed him with unimaginable wealth, riches and honor.
Many years ago when I first began serving people whose hearts were hurting, my prayer warriors would ask how they could be praying for me. My response became - "For God to give me the wisdom and discernment to know how to help those He brings across my path that are hurting and seeking comfort and encouragement." Today, this is still an ongoing prayer request because it is so critical to serving others.
I encourage you to complete Solomon's request for wisdom and knowledge in your own life as you seek to serve Him.
Lord God...Give me wisdom and knowledge that I may...
