An Anxious Heart & A Kind Word

An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. Proverbs 12:25

Have you ever felt like the weight of the world was resting on your shoulders? Did your heart seem anxious, fearful or even so burdened that you weren't sure how you were going to function?

Solomon, in Proverbs 12:25, talks about how an anxious heart can weigh us down. Perhaps you know someone who is walking through a trial right now that may be relational, physical, emotional, financial or spiritual. Maybe it seems like they are walking through a particular circumstance that is agonizing because of the pressure bearing down upon them.

Solomon also shares in this same proverb that a kind word can cheer us up. What sort of words are we speaking to one another? And where will we get these words of encouragement that we can pass along to those who may have a heavy heart right now?

Kind words are words that are uplifting and bring encouragement to the person who is struggling with anxiety, fear and deep concern over what is taking place in their life. The words that we speak also must be those that bring healing to others. In Proverbs 12:18 it says,

Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

You may be wondering where these words will come from - in Isaiah 50:4 it says,

The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue to know the word that sustains the weary.

God will give us the words that are kind, good and encouraging if we ask Him to help us. Is there someone in your life who is struggling right now? What kind words will you speak into their lives that will bring encouragement and healing to their particular situation? Ask God to help you minister His words to those who are hurting.
