God's Watch Care Over Us

I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:1-8

As I reflect on 2013, I can think of a number of times when I realized that God was watching over me as well as those I serve in ministry. His watch care is so needed. God preserves our lives each moment of every day.

Many years ago I was traveling from PA to the Ivory Coast, West Africa to see my sister and her family. I stopped in England to visit with some dear missionary friends along the way. My return trip also went through England. As I waited at 6:00 a.m. in the morning for my bags to come down the conveyor belt, nothing came after several minutes. I needed to retrieve my luggage and check it in at a different terminal to return to the states. As I waited, I became very concerned because I only had a small amount of time to pick up the luggage and check it in for my next flight.

All of a sudden, a lady from the airline came over to ask if I needed some help. I shared my dilema and she went to check on my luggage. As I was waiting, my luggage came down the belt and I grabbed it. I turned to thank the lady and she was gone. To me she was an example of God's watch care over me as I traveled alone through foreign lands.

What does His watch care mean to you as you minister to others in your life? Can you think of an example of how He has preserved your life?

As 2014 begins, please pause and thank Him for keeping you safe, watching over you and going before you in all that you do each day! May God bless you with a fruitful and healthy New Year!
