God's Great Love

We have just come through the celebration of Valentine’s Day, a holiday set aside on the calendar to show that special someone how much you love them. Although we love one another, God’s love for us surpasses any love we have ever experienced. God demonstrated this love toward the Israelites even though they did not deserve it! We don’t deserve it either, but God continues to love us unconditionally as He did the Israelites.

In Exodus 33, the Lord told Moses that he and the people should leave and go to the land that He promised them, but that He would not be going with them because they were a stiff-necked people. Moses reminded the Lord of what He had said in verses 12-13:

You have been telling me, "Lead these people," but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, "I know you by name and you have found favor with me." If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.

Out of that conversation with the Lord came three demonstrations of God’s Great Love.

God’s Presence:

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14

God’s Promise:

And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.” Exodus 33:17

God’s Protection:

“When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by.” Exodus 33:22

Question to think about: How is God demonstrating His great love toward you today?
