A Different Kind Of Rest

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him. Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. Psalm 62:1,5

Rest sounds good right about now! Serving others in ministry can sometimes be overwhelming. When a person seems to be always on the giving end, they sometimes grow weary in well-doing.

But the psalmist, David, refers to a different kind of "rest." The "rest" found in these two verses of Psalm 62 talks more about us waiting for God and God alone. Verse one speaks of "rest" as the silent expectation of divine aid whereas in verse five it means to be silent for Jehovah, i.e. patiently and with confidence expect his aid. (Strong's Concordance)

So finding rest in God alone means we need to be silent and wait for His aid and not try to do everything in our own strength!

Psalm 62:1 & 5 also describe what comes from Him - our salvation and our hope! In these verses, "salvation" means deliverance or help and "hope" means expectation or outcome. (Strong's Concordance) He is our help and hope as we serve Him.

Be encouraged that finding rest in Him involves waiting for God which may mean being inactive as opposed to being overactive. It also denotes that God desires that we are about being more like Him rather than just doing for Him.
