Missionaries:      BILL & DEBBIE CARSON

With H*VMI Since: 2002

Bill & Debbie Carson

What we do at H*VMI:

As missionaries with H*VMI, we see it as our responsibility to “be there” for elderly people in whatever need they may have – whether it be at the bedside of one who is dying, at the hospital with one facing disease, illness, or surgery, holding the hands of those that are left behind after a death, Biblically counseling through various needs, leading the lost to their Savior, encouraging the downhearted through writing, phone calls, and personal visits, as well as preaching, teaching, and discipling. We are vitally interested in teaching and encouraging others to minister to the elderly, as well as helping all people understand the specific needs of the elderly.

About Us:

Family: We have three children, who all know and serve the Lord. Melody is the oldest. She and husband Scott have 4 wonderful children. Our son Leroy has 4 vivacious children. Our youngest daughter, Joy, does not have any children, but is busy trying to live up to her name. The grandkid tally is 4 boys and 4 girls, and we feel so blessed to have all of our children and grandchildren living close by in Phoenix, Arizona, and the surrounding suburbs.

Hobbies: Our greatest “hobby” is spending time with the children and grandchildren. In past years, we have loved bowling together, but recent accidents and surgeries have left us unable to participate. We do love to go bowling with our family and for now – just watch. Deb loves to read, and write. She also loves to sew, and crochet when she can find the time or get her hands to work. Bill really enjoys watching videos, CDs or television about historical findings and events. He also has a train room that he has been involved in re-doing, and loves things about trains.

Background: Debbie graduated from Arizona State University in 1967. Bill graduated from Southwestern Bible College in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1972. We were both trained to be teachers – Debbie in Secondary Education and Bill in Elementary Education. Debbie taught public school to “put hubby through,” and Bill taught for 5 years at Scottsdale Christian Academy. We both taught seventh and eighth graders Language Arts and Social Studies. In 1977, we moved to Portland, Oregon, in order for Bill to do graduate work at Western Seminary. Debbie taught eighth graders at West Hills Christian School. It was while we were in Portland, that God impressed on our hearts full-time ministry to the elderly, and in 1978, we began working with Nursing Home Ministries, Incorporated. In 1984, we returned to Phoenix as both Bill’s parents and Deb’s parents needed help. We continued working in nursing homes in Phoenix. After joining BCM International, we continued working in nursing homes, but in 1999, God opened up a very special ministry to us – Bill became the Pastor of Glencroft Community Church, which is located on the campus of Glencroft Retirement Community in Glendale, Arizona. There are about 1,000 people on the campus at all levels of care, and it has been a truly fruitful ministry for us and for those to whom we minister.

My Life Verse: Bill’s life verse is James 1:27, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.”

Debbie’s life verse is 1 Peter 3:15, “But sanctify the Lord God is your hearts: and be ready to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”

Please Pray for Us:   (Click on our newsletter below for more specific requests.)

  • Please pray that we will faithfully set the time aside to maintain our own pure relationships before God, which will keep us sensitive to His leading as we deal with others
  • Pray that we will give every person we meet “Christ” – not assuming that they know Him personally until we have talked with them.
  • Pray that we will be able to pass on to others the joy of reaching out to the elderly, and find some special individual or couple to take over this ministry when we can no longer actively
    do it.
